Scripture

Pure and lasting religion in the sight of God our Father means that we must care for orphans and widows in their troubles, and refuse to let the world corrupt us.

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well; the devils also believe, and tremble.  But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

You believe that there is one God.  Good!  Even the demons believe that – and shudder.  You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?

Do you still think it’s enough just to believe that there is one God?  Well, even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror!  Fool!  When will you ever learn that faith that does not result in good deeds is useless?

For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.  For he that said, do not commit adultery, said also, do not kill.  Now if thou commit adultery, yet if thou kill thou art become a transgressor of the law.

For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.  For he who said, Do not commit adultery, also said, Do not murder.  If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.

These six things doth the Lord hate; yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

There are six things the Lord hate- no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord among brothers.

My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:  Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.  When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; when thou awake, it shall talk with thee.  For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life.

My son, keep your father’s commands and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.  Bind them upon your heart forever; fasten them around your neck. When you sleep they will watch over you.  When you awake, they will speak to you.  For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the correction of discipline are the way of life.

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.  Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:  But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust and enticed.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance; against such there is no law.

Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.  For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.  Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.  And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgement as the noonday.

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him; fret not thyself because of him who propereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.  Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.  For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.  Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down:  for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.
